- Do not accept remuneration from schools or institutions
- Provide accurate information on schools, and where relevant, scholarships, but make no promises of admissions to a particular school or financial aid award
- Advise students on types and uses of standardized admissions tests
- Advise students on application requirements and deadlines
- Assist students develop a list of schools that is balanced and is a good fit
- Brainstorm essay ideas and help a student find their authentic voice, but will not write essays for students
- Assist students in organizing themselves so they meet all important deadlines
- Counsel students to utilize the internet resources with maturity
- Advise students to report changes in their academic record or personal conduct even after a application is submitted
- Advise students to be the sole author of their application and essays
